Tiffany Haddish is giving her flowers to the woman who changed her life while she was in high school.

During an appearance on “The View” earlier this week, the actress was promoting her new memoir, “I Curse You With Joy,” when she took the time to thank her high school drama teacher, Ms. Grieb, for teaching her how to read.

She revealed that Ms. Grieb had noticed that she was having issues with reading and used her lunchtime to teach her.

“I was very good at hiding and masking and pretending and she figured out that I couldn’t do it very well,” she said. “She would give me magazines and newspapers and she would sit with me to read. Basically, by the end of the semester, I was reading.”

The “Girls Trip” star said that she had kept in contact with her former teacher via social media and over the phone but hadn’t seen her in 25 years. However, the cast of “The View” surprised her by bringing Ms. Grieb to the set.

Haddish gave her teacher an emotional thank you for helping her get through one of the most difficult times of her life.

“Thank you so much for always encouraging me, and taking time with me and listening to me,” Haddish told her teacher. “During that time I was really struggling a lot and you were the most consistent, constant thing in my world next to my grandma. I’m so grateful for you, I’m so glad I met you. Thank you so much for being kind.”
