Super-producer Timbaland is catching heat for his comments regarding Britney Spears’ new memoir, “The Woman In Me”

On October 29, Timbaland sat down with producer 9th Wonder at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. A person from the audience asked how he felt about “Cry Me A River” trending because of Spears’ memoir.

Timbaland suggested Timberlake could have avoided the criticism if he just “put a muzzle on” his ex. “I wanted to call JT and say ‘Man! You should have put a muzzle on that girl.’”

He also told the DC crowd, “We live in the age of social media and [going] viral, everybody wants to go viral. I get it ’cause that’s the way you make money.”

Fans quickly came to Spears’ defense:

“This is disgusting! “Put a “muzzle on that girl” it shows @Timbaland true character and shows the kind of men @jtimberlake associates himself with, a woman being able to tell her truth after 2 decades is not a woman being “crazy” it’s a women being FREE, one user wrote.

“Quick someone name a Timbaland hit song that was after 2008,” another commented.

Timberlake and Timbaland have created era defining hits since the early 2000s. Timberlake/Timbaland’s previous hits include “Cry Me A River,” the FutureSex/LoveSounds album, “Ayo Technology,” and “4 Minutes” to name a few.

In August, it was announced that Timberlake, Timbaland and Nelly Furtado were reuniting for “Keep Going Up.” The trio previously collaborate for 2007’s “Give It To Me.”
