Tracy Chapman Earns First ACM Nomination

Tracy Chapman recently earned her first Academy of Country Music Awards nomination for her iconic 1988 track “Fast Car.” The nomination comes as country star Luke Combs’ cover of the song garners widespread acclaim.

In the Song of the Year category, Chapman is recognized for her songwriting contribution to “Fast Car,” with Combs as the performer. Combs himself leads with a remarkable eight nominations, including Entertainer of the Year and Album of the Year.

Combs’ rendition of “Fast Car” soared to the top of the Country Airplay chart and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after its release last year. The cover has also been a financial success, earning at least $500,000 in international publishing royalties, with the majority benefiting Chapman.

Chapman expressed her gratitude for the unexpected resurgence of “Fast Car,” stating, “I never expected to find myself on the country charts, but I’m honored to be there.” The song, originally featured on Chapman’s debut album, garnered her multiple Grammy Awards, including Best Female Vocal Performance.
