Tristan Thompson hopes that he can help end the feud between LeBron James and Drake.
Appearing on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay, Thompson shared how much he loves Drake, a fellow native of Canada.
“Drake’s my brother.. I’ve known him since I was 17. That’s family. Always gonna ride with him. Like you said, he was there when my mom passed away. We have a relationship,” Thompson said.
“I spoke to him last week, as well. We’re close. I mean, the beauty about all of us Canadians… you know, we all root for each other,” Thompson continued. “For myself, I’m close with Drake, but I’m also close with The Weeknd. I love The Weeknd, that’s my brother, as well. PARTYNEXTDOOR, love him, as well. That’s all family.”
Thompson then spoke about how people from Toronto have each other’s backs.
“For us from Toronto, we look at [it] as ‘Toronto vs. the World.” We’re called the Screwface Capital,” said Thompson. “We come with a chip on our shoulders. Obviously, Drake has led the way in the entertainment and music industry, doing his thing.
Sharpe then asked how Thompson could play a role in squashing LeBron and Drake’s beef. Thompson noted that he’s hard at work on it.
“I would love to,” Thompson replied. “Listen, yeah. I’m trying, man.”
The fallout between LeBron James and Drake stems from Drake’s 2024 rap battle with Kendrick Lamar. Despite a 17-year friendship, tensions flared when LeBron publicly aligned with Lamar. The NBA star attended Kendrick’s “The Pop Out” concert and actively vibed to the diss track “Not Like Us.” Drake viewed this as a massive personal betrayal. He fired back on his album Iceman, mocking LeBron for “switching teams up” on the track “1 AM in Albany.”
LeBron has since downplayed the hostility, stating they are simply “in different places” with “no hate.” Rich Paul, LeBron’s agent, has also tried to mediate and mend the bridge.
