Charlene Keys, better known as, Tweet, is back on the scene with a new label, single and album.
Over the weekend, the GRAMMY nominee took to Instagram to announce her new single “Toot, Toot,” which debuts on September 26.
“It’s time to take you back,” she told her 411k followers on Instagram. “20 years in the making; I never left, I just kept recording. Next up [is] ‘Toot Toot’ from the highly anticipated ‘Memoirs of a Southern Hummingbird’ [album].
The announcement follows a noticeable hiatus Tweet took after releasing her third album, Charlene in 2016. Her latest project acts a conceptual follow-up to her 2002 breakthrough album Southern Hummingbird.
In 2001, at age 30, taking in her childhood nickname “Tweet”, her album Southern Hummingbird debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard R&B charts, and its first single “Oops (Oh My)” shot to the top ten. A second hit followed in 2002 with “Call Me”.

The sultry singer/songwriter traveled a long and twisted path to success, that eventually brought her in contact with Missy Elliott, who years later tracked her old friend down and rescued her from obscurity.
In partnership with producer Timbaland, Tweet became the newest addition to Missy’s “Goldmind Records”. She went on to have a successful career as a solo artist and background vocalist. Tweet provided background vocals to projects for Missy Elliot, Ja-Rule, Trina, Karen Clark Sheard, Monica and Angie Stone.
