Tyla opens up about being compared to Rihanna.
Since bursting onto the scene in 2023 with her hit single “Water,” and winning her first Grammy, Tyla has been taking the world by storm. However, she has also been compared to Rihanna, but insists that she is not Rihanna, although she is flattered by the compliments.
“Rihanna is Rihanna. It’s a compliment,” she said in an interview. “But at the same time, I’m my own artist. I’m Tyla. And I know as people get to know me and my music, they will see me as just Tyla. So I’m fine with it now.”
She continued, “People want to tie me to something familiar to them, cool. But at the end of the day, we’re doing something no one’s done before, and it can’t really be compared to anyone.”
Tyla made history by becoming the first person to win the New African Music Performance Category at the Grammys back in February. She went on to release her debut album, “Tyla” which features the hit songs “Water”, and “ART.”
