Wendy Williams, the former daytime talk-show host, made a spirited public statement Saturday night. Amid swirling reports about her health and legal status, she declared, “I will get out of guardianship.”

The 61-year-old was spotted at Tucci’s restaurant in New York. She appeared refreshed. Fans and media took notice.

Williams’s legal guardianship, imposed in May 2022 amid financial concerns, continues to draw public attention. A recent medical evaluation reaffirmed her diagnoses of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia. The court has been asked to extend the guardianship through November 5, 2025.

Nevertheless, Williams disputes the claim. She told Page Six that her attorneys are “highly upset” with the reports about her condition. She outright denied confirmation of those test results.

Her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, has filed a $250 million lawsuit in June. The suit alleges abuse, financial mismanagement, and violation of rights. Hunter filed it on behalf of their son, Kevin Jr., who reportedly felt intimidated by the court proceedings.

A Defiant Voice for Autonomy

Williams showed determination when asked about her guardian. She said, “I want to say hi to my attorneys, Allan Diamond and Joe Tacopina. And I will get out of guardianship.”

This echoes comments she made at her 61st birthday celebration last month. When asked what she wanted most, her answer was immediate: to “get out of guardianship.” She added confidently, “It will absolutely 1000% happen.”

Williams has repeatedly described the assisted living facility where she resides as feeling like a “prison.” She also has criticized her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, and said the environment is suffocating.

Public Support Grows

Supporters have rallied to her side. Fans organized both online campaigns and real-world protests under the #FreeWendy banner. Her niece, Alex Finnie, has been particularly vocal in public advocacy.

Even outside the court, former child actor Brock Pierce has extended an offer. He hopes to provide Williams with a peaceful setting in one of his mansions to receive care—possibly offering an alternative environment to her current arrangement.
