Will Smith has returned to the music scene with his new single, “You Can Make It,” featuring Fridayy and the Sunday Service Choir. The song debuted on several Billboard charts, marking Smith’s impactful return.
The single premiered at No. 3 on the Hot Gospel Songs chart and No. 23 on the Hot Christian Songs chart. Additionally, it secured No. 3 on the Gospel Digital Song Sales chart, No. 6 on the Christian Digital Song Sales chart, No. 10 on the Gospel Streaming Songs chart, and No. 28 on the Gospel Airplay chart.
Smith’s first Christian/gospel single was released on June 28. He performed it live for the first time at the 2024 BET Awards, alongside Kirk Franklin and Chandler Moore. Reflecting on the song, Smith shared with Billboard, “I was really talking to myself. To see so many people resonate with the intention gives me a clear North Star for this next chapter of my creative life.”
Will Smith’s Anthem of Encouragement
During his performance at the BET Awards, Smith delivered an inspiring message to his audience. “I don’t know who needs to hear this right now, but whatever’s going on in your life, I’m here to tell you—you can make it,” he declared.
The song’s lyrics focus on staying encouraged through life’s challenges. Smith raps, “Tryna heal, but the battle’s uphill/ And if God is for real, you just wonder if He’ll listen/ So many tests for the flesh/ Exhausted, gasping to catch your breath/ Walking through the valley of the shadow of death/ And when you think you’ve got nothing left, keep going.”
Smith’s return to music comes two years after the altercation with Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. He is reportedly working on a full album, though its direction remains undisclosed.
Smith, who has previously achieved No. 1 hits with “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” and “Wild Wild West,” is excited to explore this new musical chapter. His latest film, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” premiered on June 7, adding to his successful year.
