Zoe Saldaña is officially the highest-grossing actor of all time.
According to Variety, Saldaña has starred in three of the highest-grossing films of all time. 2009’s Avatar and its 2022 sequel The Way of Water, which hold the No. 1 and 3 spots respectively, and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame at No. 2. Saldaña is also the first actress to appear in four movies that have generated more than $2 billion globally, such as 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. She also starred as Gamora in three Guardians of the Galaxy movies and portrayed Nyota Uhura in the Star Trek trilogy.
Previously, Saldaña was the third-highest-grossing actor behind fellow MCU stars Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson.
Saldaña jumped to the No. 1 spot after the third installment of Avatar, which has earned $1.23 billion to date. In total, her films have grossed $15.47 billion.
Saldaña took to social media to share her gratitude for her significant accomplishment.
“I just want to express my sincerest gratitude for the extraordinary journey that has led me to become the highest-grossing film actor of all time today. An achievement made possible entirely by the incredible franchises,” Saldaña said. “And the collaborators that I have been fortunate enough to be a part of. To every director who placed their trust in me.”
Saldaña then shouted out Star Trek director J.J. Abrams, Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Guardians filmmaker James Gunn, and Avatar’s James Cameron,
“For believing in my potential for seeing something in me that I have not always seen in myself. And for challenging me to always rise to the occasion. Your faith, your guidance and your vision, they shape not only these films, but me as an artist.”
Saldaña also thanked her fans for their support.
Your unwavering support, passion and loyalty are the true foundation of this milestone,” she said. “None of this exists without you showing up time and time again with open hearts and enthusiasm. This accomplishment belongs to all of us, and I’m deeply grateful and profoundly humbled. And may the next record breaker be another woman!”
