Following the controversy surrounding Kevin Host hosting the Oscars, comedian legend, Chris Rock comments on the current state of comedy. During the 2019 New York Film Critics Circle Awards, Chris Rock was presenting an award and took that opportunity to voice his opinion.

Chris feels like he can’t make jokes the same way he would if it was 5 years ago, “If it was five years ago, I could say something really offensive and funny right now, but I can’t do that anymore, so…heyyyy!” Interesting.

Rock was apparently approached to host the Oscars, which he addressed on stage as well. He spotted fellow comedian, Steve Martin, in the audience and directed his next comment at him. He suggested that Martin host the Oscars because he’s simply not doing it. “Steve Martin is here! You should host the Oscars! You’re the best! Steve Martin should host the Oscars! Because I’m not doing it, goddammit! You’re not getting me.”

If you can remember, Rock hosted the awards twice. Once in 2005 and again in 2016. If you had hopes on him returning, you can forget it.
