The death of rap legend Coolio has shocked the hip-hop community as well as his own family. However, the late rapper’s oldest son, Artis Ivey III, is speaking about the artist’s passing.
We reported that Coolio died while at a friend’s house in Los Angeles on September 28th at age 59. The official cause of death has not been revealed but his son did share that his father was dealing with some health issues.
“My dad was having a couple of health complications. He was taking care of those things. A lot was going on with asthma, real bad asthma,” Ivey III said.
He continued, “He was for the most pet drug-free, but my dad lived for the day, everyone in life has their vices, but those vices never really affected him as a father or a man. He died of natural causes. He just had a heart attack.”
Ivey III added, “Although it was a complete shock, at the same time, you know, our father always prepared us for things that might happen. My father was a very spiritual person. He didn’t fear death at all. It was another step to paradise. He had his own set of beliefs. He believed in a higher power and he believed in himself.”
A private ceremony was held for the rapper. His remains were cremated and all of his children received a pendant with his ashes in it.
