While receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is privileged honor, it comes with a hefty fee. There is a $75,000 sponsorship fee upon selection. According to the site, the fee is used to pay for the creation and installation of the star, as well as maintenance of the Walk of Fame.
We recently reported that singer and Broadway star Melba Moore received the 2,760th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
After the Aug. 10 ceremony, Moore revealed that Williams single-handedly helped her secure the coveted honor — in the category of Live Theatre/Live Performance. “A public thank you to KW He is the sole sponsor of my Star,” she wrote in an Instagram post expressing gratitude. “Katt in me you have a Friend,” she continued.
Williams, who attended the ceremony alongside Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jimmy Jam and Luenell, paid homage to the singer. He acknowledged her excellence on stage, in television, music and film. Moore won a Tony Award for her role in Broadway’s “Purlie.” She also has been nominated for four Grammys and starred in several on-screen projects.
“I looked up who paved the way for Melba Moore, who was the person that excelled in all of those things, and I found out that that person did not exist. Melba Moore is a one of one in our industry and that’s what we’re celebrating,” said Williams.
An instagram user commented, “what a beautiful blessing you gave to a legend miss Melba Moore and you didn’t even release the information yourself what a class act.”
Another on Twitter posted, “Katt Williams consistently proves that even though he is crazy sometimes, he a real one.”
Celebrity friends commented on the thoughtful gesture including Living Single‘s Erica Alexander, “@kattwilliams class act. Caught in the act. #dotherightthing 4 a #nationaltreasure“. Love & Hip Hop‘s Karlie Redd added, “@KattWilliams Has The Biggest Heart ❤️ If you know you know ❤️”
