Gov. Cuomo Denies Mayor de Blasio’s Claim To Close NYC Schools

Over the weekend, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced NYC schools would remain closed for the rest of the school year. However, Governor Andrew Cuomo says that decision hasn’t been made yet.

During Cuomo’s briefing, shortly after de Blasio made the announcement, Cuomo said,

“There’s been no decision on schools. He didn’t close them and he can’t open them.”

Gov. Cuomo went on to say, that NYC schools could remain closed however, the decision will be made in “consultation with the New York City suburbs and New Jersey and Connecticut.” Cuomo also said de Blasio doesn’t have the authority to make that decision and only he does.

NYC schools were closed in mid-March and were scheduled to reopen on April 20. Gov. Cuomo extended it until April 29.
