Happy Birthday to Da Brat! The rapper turns 49 today and of course, we’ve got to shine some light on some facts you may not know about this amazing artist. Da Brat has given us hit after hit throughout her career. Now the rapper is entering a new journey in her life as a soon-to-be mother. She and her wife, Jessica Dupart-Harris are expecting a baby boy in just a few months. You may know a bit about the rapper, but what about the facts you didn’t know? We’ve got you for this week’s In Case You Didn’t Know.

Facts About Da Brat

Da Brat actually has a half sister who is also in the entertainment industry (and also only wears white). She is the paternal half sister to actress LisaRaye McCoy growing up, da brat split her time between her father and mother’s house but still developed a strong bond with her older sister during their childhoods.

Did you know she was musically inclined? We know she can rap but you may not know she played seven intruments! She attended Kenwood Academy and the Academy of Scholastic Achievement where she played in the school’s band and would often fill in when a section was missing a player.

Lastly, Da Brat has had lots of successes but she has had quite a few historical firsts. Her debut album Funkdafied sold over one million copies. This made her the first solo female rap act to go platinum and the second ever female rap act to do so after Salt-N-Peppa.
