R. Kelly Ditched Legal Team & Hired Bill Cosby’s Attorney

R. Kelly is making a significant change to his legal team.

The disgraced singer ditched his Chicago legal team and enlisted Bill Cosby’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean.

Bonjean successfully appealed The Cosby Show actor’s sexual assault conviction in 2018; R.Kelly hopes for the same outcome. HNHH points out that R. Kelly said he wanted Bonjean to represent him in the Chicago chase and set for a jury trial in August.

The “Bump N’ Grind” singer is awaiting sentencing in Brooklyn for his racketeering conviction in New York last year. R. Kelly’s trial date is set for August 1, 2022.

According to Rolling Stone, R. Kelly was reportedly scheduled to be in court two weeks ago but got COVID-19 in his jail cell. As a result, due to illness, Bonjean was granted a two-week extension to allow the singer to review all necessary paperwork.

As reported in the Chicago Tribune, R. Kelly was found guilty of 12 charges, which included engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor and bribing a police officer to get a 15-year-old singer a fake ID. He’s facing a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years.

R. Kelly was found guilty back in September in a sex trafficking trial. He’s facing a separate trial in Chicago on child pornography and obstruction charges, in addition to sex abuse charges in Illinois and Minnesota. He could face decades in prison.
