Halle Bailey, Taraji P. Henson, H.E.R., Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, and Fantasia Barrino star in this remake and just like the original, this film was produced by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg. It was directed by Blitz Bazawule.

The original adaption of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Color Purple, was released in 1985 and directed by Spielberg. It followed the life of Celie, who was then played by Whoopi Goldberg, living in rural Georgia.

In the film, fans witnessed the trauma that Celie went through, from being separated from her sister, Nettie, to being in an abusive marriage, but they also experienced the growth that Celie went through once she formed a friendship with Shug Avery.

The remake of The Color Purple will be released on Christmas this year. Are you excited about seeing that new movie?
