Television producer Kenya Barris stays winning because another Black-ish spin-off could be in the works.

With the fifth season of Black-ish underway, producers are considering a Bow Johnson spin-off, which would air as a prequel and give viewers an inside look at life before Tracee Ellis Ross’ character became Dr. Johnson.

The prequel possibility stems from an upcoming episode of Black-ish that features flashback to a teen version of Bow, says Deadline.

Black-ish executive producer Peter Saji is in talks to pen the episode, set in the 1980s-90s, which will revolve around Rainbow’s growing up.”

If the upcoming episode performs, the new spin-off would join Grown-ish, Barris’ previous series branch-out, which made its debut on Freeform in January of last year (2018).

Barris is said to be an executive producer on the new show, but will not have a day-to-day, hands-on role because of his “overall deal commitment to Netflix.”
