The late Virgil Abloh is being remembered in a special way. The designer has a new scholarship named after him which was created by the Royal College of Art. This new scholarship is set to help “underrepresented groups in the creative and design industries,” according to reports. Every year a Black British student will receive this scholarship to help with financial hardships. The RCA scholarship funding of $40,404 came from an anonymous American donor and it is slated to pay the whole tuition for all postgraduate courses at the School of Design. This fund will also offer exposure in the fashion industry and networking opportunities. Shannon Abloh, Virgil’s wife, spoke about the scholarship and said, “Over the years, the RCA and Virgil formed a beautiful relationship based on a shared appreciation of collaboration, creative vision, and of course, education,” she said. “We know that the RCA Virgil Abloh scholarship will break down financial barriers to fulfilling creative potential and empower talented young individuals to dream even bigger.” Virgil Abloh died in November 2021 after silently battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer called cardiac angiosarcoma. Before his untimely passing, he founded the brand Off-White and was the menswear artistic director for Louis Vuitton.
