In one of the more bizarre interruptions in recent professional sports memory, a WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries was momentarily stopped Sunday night after a sex toy was thrown onto the court during the game’s final seconds.
With the score tied 75–75 and less than a minute remaining, players and officials were forced to pause as a neon green object bounced near the sideline. Play-by-play announcer Morgan Ragan, broadcasting live, offered a stunned reaction.
“Something flies on the court actually from the crowd,” she said. “And you can see the object… the green thing bounces and it goes to the sideline.”
She continued, “No room for any of that type of activity. And no one’s picked the object up yet, you guys.”
The broadcast camera eventually zoomed in on the item, revealing it to be a sex toy. Ragan’s tone shifted from disbelief to clear disapproval:
“Oh my gosh, okay. Okay. Inappropriate… Get them out of here, whoever it is.”
Swift Response, Unusual Scene
Arena security and local law enforcement moved quickly. A police officer removed the object using a towel, and officials resumed play within minutes. Though momentarily rattled, players continued the game without further incident. Golden State ultimately emerged with a 77–75 victory.
No injuries were reported, and the fan responsible has not been publicly identified. The WNBA has yet to issue an official statement on disciplinary action, though league rules prohibit throwing objects onto the court under any circumstances.
Players React With Humor, Caution
After the game, Golden State forward Cecilia Zandalasini admitted she was taken off guard but tried to keep things light.
“Once we found out what it was, I guess we just started laughing,” she said. “I’ve never seen anything like that.”
Others raised concerns about safety and fan behavior.
Broadcaster Jacobs Tobey noted,
“As a player, you want to feel protected… there’s confusion on the final possession when that happens.”
While some fans responded with humor on social media, others called for increased security and accountability.
