Emmy-winning actor Colman Domingo was almost recruited into a cult in Mexico City.
During an appearance on the YouTube series “Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals,” Domingo candidly chatted about meeting what he thought were just friendly locals but quickly evolved into something far more sinister.
At the 26-minute mark in the YouTube video below, Colman briefly describes the encounter.
“I almost joined a cult in Mexico City,” Domingo admitted, “but that’s another story.”
“It was just a group of nice people, and then I was like, wait a minute. This is weird,” he said. “I was like, ‘What’s up with you guys?’ This is my first encounter, but as I did research and found out more about them, I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s a cult.’
The topic that led to this revelation was host, Josh Scherer, asking about how typically the peak of success in Hollywood is isolation. He suggested that leaving your communities behind in favor of private jets and compounds is common behavior of the wealthy.
Colman admitted that while he lives in an isolated area, he still makes an effort to be amongst everyday people. “I make active choices to like work out at a gym where there’s a lot of people. I don’t know how you can possibly tell stories about humanity and people without being around people.”
Colman, star of prison drama Sing, Sing, has won an Emmy and been nominated for two Academy Awards, two BAFTAs, four SAG Awards, and two Tonys (including one as a producer).
