Wendy Williams‘s ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, just hit a major legal roadblock in his attempt to fight her guardianship.
A judge dismissed the federal lawsuit Hunter filed on behalf of his ex-wife on Oct. 9, ruling that he cannot proceed with the case as a friend acting in her interests.
The ruling comes after Hunter filed the original $250M federal lawsuit in New York back in June. The case sought to remove Williams from the guardianship of Sabrina Morrissey, but Williams herself made clear she had no involvement with or knowledge of the legal action her ex-husband initiated.
“He’s a money-grubber; he’s always been that way,” the former talk show host said Hunter in June. “It’s good to know that he’s doing such evil things — again.”
Of her outlook on the lawsuit Hunter filed on June 17, Williams said, “He won’t win.”
Williams, who on Oct 9 called in to TMZ Live, expressed confusion about her current finances, admitting she’s unsure how much money she even has.
Williams and Hunter divorced in 2019 after 21 years of marriage.
A New York court appointed a guardian for Williams after determining she was incapacitated and unable to manage her affairs in 2022. Wells Fargo subsequently froze her bank accounts. Williams, however, claims she has capacity and expresses feelings of isolation, even comparing her experience to being in prison.
The restrictive arrangement has led to her virtual disappearance from public life, though she was recently seen attending a fashion show during New York Fashion Week.
If the judge finds Williams to be coherent, strong, and capable of handling complex legal questions, it could open the door for her to challenge her ward status and regain control of her life and fortune.
