Sean “Diddy” Combs organized a large Thanksgiving meal at FCI Fort Dix with fellow inmates, bringing an unusual sense of community to the prison.
On Thursday (Nov 25), Diddy reportedly helped to serve about 1,000 inmates with the help of a prison group called the “Bankroll Bosses.” To make the meal happen, they purchased extra food items from the prison commissary, using funds provided mostly by Diddy himself.
According to his rep, who spoke to TMZ, the group used their commissary funds to buy ingredients and spent two days cooking and assembling food for every housing unit, enough to feed roughly 200 inmates per building.
Despite the challenges, of not having stoves or microwaves, the inmates made it work—with creativity and teamwork.
One inmate, a gang leader, known as B.I said the inmates improvised as best they could, even using their ID cards as makeshift knives.
Meals were delivered to each of the five housing units, feeding about 200 inmates per unit. The effort created a sense of family that many behind bars miss during the holidays.
Typically, prisons offer only a minimal holiday meal, like an “in-and-out” service featuring turkey roast with trimmings, mashed potatoes, corn, and dessert.
Reflecting on the initiative, Diddy said he wanted to help lift spirits during a difficult time.
“Thanksgiving, to me, is about making sure other people eat,” he shared, per TMZ. “Everybody misses their family. People get depressed during the holidays. We just wanted to come together as a family and do our own thing.”
