Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry described how a shared commitment to service and family turned into a friendship with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. The couple spoke about the start of that connection in recent interviews. Their account traces a path from charity work to friendly rounds of golf and business ties.

From advocacy panels to the Oval Office

Stephen Curry said the relationship began through his support of a global malaria effort. He described joining a council that led to Capitol Hill panels. He recalled visiting the Oval Office as part of that work. “It never feels normal to say you’re friends with the president and the First Lady, but it’s special,” he said.

Ayesha Curry added that what drew them together was shared work on children’s health. She noted Michelle Obama’s initiatives and the Currys’ nonprofit in Oakland. Ayesha said the two families found common ground in how they approached youth nutrition and wellness. Their mutual interests later led to a business collaboration.

Stephen told reporters the friendship deepened after a casual golf outing on Martha’s Vineyard. He said the former president frequently asks him questions about basketball. Ayesha laughed that the Obamas “are very normal” people, even with their public stature. Those moments helped move a cordial acquaintance into a close friendship.

The Currys also have introduced the Warriors to the former president in later years. Reports say Stephen helped arrange team visits and meetings that reflected those ties. The Golden State organization has met with Mr. Obama on multiple occasions.

Partnerships followed friendship. The Currys became ambassadors for PLEZi Nutrition, a children’s hydration product linked to Michelle Obama’s past work on nutrition. Ayesha said the deciding factor was how their children reacted to the drinks at home. “We kind of just left it in the fridge,” she said. “Within a week, they were like, ‘Can I have a PLEZi?’”

The story the Currys told shows how public figures can form private bonds through shared causes. It also highlights how activism can lead to lasting friendships. The couple said they value the relationship for its personal and practical benefits.
