Angela Simmons is setting the record straight about her brief romantic history with Cam Newton, saying their connection never went beyond a single outing.

During a recent appearance on Newton’s “Funky Friday” platform, Simmons addressed long-standing rumors that the two once dated. She clarified that the pair only shared one date, and it quickly ended any potential for more.

“I wouldn’t say the word date… we went out on a date,” Simmons said, drawing a distinction between a one-time meeting and an ongoing relationship.

A One-and-Done Encounter

Simmons explained that the meeting took place in 2011 in New York, shortly before Newton entered the NFL draft. The introduction came through a mutual connection, and the evening initially appeared promising.

However, Simmons said the experience quickly soured.

She described Newton’s behavior as off-putting, noting that he repeatedly laughed at his own jokes and appeared overly focused on himself. According to Simmons, that dynamic made it difficult to form a genuine connection.

“It felt like an arrogant asshole,” Simmons said during the conversation.

She added that his demeanor throughout the night ultimately gave her what she described as “the ‘ick.’”

Simmons also recalled moments that stood out as particularly uncomfortable. She said Newton would “pat himself on the back” and seemed more engaged with his own stories than with her responses.

By the end of the evening, Simmons had made up her mind.

“I said, ‘Oh, I’m ready to go,’” she said, describing her reaction to the date.

No Second Chance

Newton, for his part, appeared surprised by some of Simmons’ recollections. He noted that the date happened during a hectic time in his life, just before he was selected first overall in the 2011 NFL Draft.

“That was the night before I got drafted,” Newton said. “I didn’t remember being that corny.”

Despite the differing perspectives, both agreed that the encounter never developed into anything more. Simmons emphasized that they did not pursue a relationship afterward and have only crossed paths occasionally since then.

Newton went on to become one of the NFL’s most recognizable quarterbacks, earning league MVP honors in 2015 and building a media career after football.

Simmons, meanwhile, has continued her work in entertainment and business, maintaining a public presence across multiple platforms.
