Sean “Diddy” Combs is now projected to be released from federal prison earlier than previously expected, marking the latest change in a series of sentence adjustments that have steadily shortened his anticipated time behind bars.
According to updated Federal Bureau of Prisons records, Combs’ projected release date has been moved to Feb. 23, 2028. The new date is several weeks earlier than his previously listed release date and represents the third reduction in recent months.
The music mogul, 56, is serving a 50-month federal sentence following his 2025 conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. A jury acquitted him of more serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, after a closely watched trial in New York.
Release Date Continues to Shift
Combs’ projected release timeline has changed multiple times since his sentencing. His original release date was listed as May 8, 2028. It was later pushed back to June 4, 2028, before being moved forward to April 25, 2028. The date was subsequently adjusted to April 15, 2028, and has now been advanced again to Feb. 23, 2028.
Federal officials have not publicly explained the latest adjustment. However, reports indicate Combs has been participating in the Residential Drug Abuse Program at Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix in New Jersey, where he is serving his sentence. Similar rehabilitation programs can, in some cases, contribute to sentence reductions.
A representative for Combs previously said, “Mr. Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start. He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth, and committed to positive change.”
Appeal Remains Pending
The revised release date arrives as Combs continues his legal fight to overturn his conviction and sentence.
His attorneys filed an appeal challenging both the verdict and the punishment imposed by the court. The defense has argued that the sentence was excessive and has maintained that the conduct underlying the convictions involved consensual adult relationships.
In court filings, Combs’ legal team described the case as a “perversion of justice” and has sought either an acquittal or a new sentencing hearing. Prosecutors have opposed those efforts and are urging appellate judges to uphold the conviction.
While the appeal works its way through the courts, Combs remains incarcerated at Fort Dix. His attorneys have said he is focused on rehabilitation and personal growth during his time in prison. Reports from those close to the case indicate he has also spent considerable time studying legal matters related to his appeal.
Unless additional adjustments are made or his appeal succeeds, Combs is currently scheduled to be released from federal custody on Feb. 23, 2028.
