Sean “Diddy” Combs is reportedly returning to solitary confinement as officials investigate allegations surrounding his treatment in federal prison.
Combs was moved to the Special Housing Unit at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, according to reports. The unit is commonly known as solitary confinement.
The move follows an NBC News investigation published Sept. 29. Four men who spent time in Combs’ unit spoke anonymously with the outlet.
They alleged Combs paid other inmates to cook, clean, handle his laundry and perform other tasks. One source also claimed Combs received massages from another prisoner.
“This is not some normal s— you see in jail. This is some rich s—,” one source told NBC News. “It looks crazy, but again, it’s Diddy.”
The outlet also reported allegations involving contraband inside the prison.
Sources claimed Combs accessed cellphones and a modified tablet. Other allegations included access to alcohol while incarcerated.
TMZ reported Combs’ latest placement in the Special Housing Unit comes while officials investigate the allegations. Sources described the move as a typical procedure during an internal investigation.
The Bureau of Prisons has not publicly confirmed the specific allegations against Combs.
A spokesperson previously said the agency does not discuss individual housing assignments for privacy, safety and security reasons.
Combs’ team pushes back on prison reports
Combs’ representative, Juda Engelmayer, disputed the characterization of his life behind bars.
“The continued scrutiny of every mundane detail of Sean Combs’s life in prison has reached the point where the media characterizes ordinary prison life as news,” Engelmayer said.
“The only real news is that Sean continues to serve his sentence within the rules and he patiently awaits the court’s decision on his appeal.”
The Bureau of Prisons acknowledged that contraband remains a challenge across federal facilities.
“Like all correctional agencies, contraband, particularly cell phones, narcotics, and weapons, remains a constant challenge,” a spokesperson said.
“And we continue to tackle the problem of contraband being introduced into our facilities.”
The latest development marks Combs’ second reported stint in solitary confinement at Fort Dix this year.
Previous prison fight led to solitary confinement
Combs was reportedly placed in solitary confinement in July after an altercation with another inmate. A source familiar with the incident told ABC News that another prisoner made a remark toward Combs before the confrontation.
Combs was eventually returned to the prison’s general population. The Bureau of Prisons declined to discuss his housing assignment at the time. Combs is serving a 50-month federal sentence following his 2025 criminal trial.
A jury convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and two sex-trafficking counts.
Combs has been incarcerated since his September 2024 arrest. He was later transferred to the low-security Fort Dix facility in New Jersey. His projected release date has changed several times during his incarceration. Federal inmate records reviewed Sept. 29 listed his projected release date as Jan. 21, 2028.
The Bureau of Prisons notes that projected release dates are based on its sentence calculations. Those dates can change during an inmate’s incarceration. Meanwhile, Combs’ attorneys continue challenging his conviction through the appeals process.
It remains unclear how long Combs will remain in the Special Housing Unit. Officials also have not publicly announced findings from any investigation into the latest allegations.
