Alexander Morris, the current lead singer of the Four Tops, has filed a lawsuit against a Michigan Hospital for racial discrimination.
Reports state the lawsuit was filed against Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren, Michigan over the 2023 incident. Morris claims that he was denied critical medical treatment by the hospital staff after arriving at the ER with severe chest pains.
He also claims that they believed that he was mentally ill after he revealed that he was a famous singer. This resulted in the staff putting him in a straitjacket for nearly 90 minutes. Morris also said that he was told to “sit your Black a** down,” by staff.
The singer says he was racially discriminated against because of a “perceived disability.” Morris later underwent a psychological evaluation while still having severe chest pains. Alexander Morris spoke on this issue last year to local reporters.
A spokesperson from Ascension said in a statement that their company does not “condone racial discrimination of any kind,” but did not speak on the lawsuit. The statement continued, “The health, safety, and well-being of our patients, associates, and community members remains our top priority. We remain committed to honoring human dignity and acting with integrity and compassion for all persons and the community. We do not condone racial discrimination of any kind. We will not comment on pending litigation.”
Morris, who joined the Four Tops in 2018, has not made any further comments about the lawsuit or the incident.
