Veteran emcee Busta Rhymes, known for his energetic performances and larger-than-life persona, has sparked concern among fans with his sudden weight loss.
While recent pictures show Busta, noticeably smaller, fans question if his weight loss was truly the result of dieting and working out as he previously stated.
“I had a breathing issue after the intimate interaction.”
In 2019, having had reached a peak of 340 pounds, Busta developed high blood pressure and polyps on his vocal cords. Additionally he shared that his breathing issues affected his intimate life which prompted his 100-pound weight loss. The rapper called it labeled the experience a post-sex “asthma attack”-like experience.
“One night I was getting ready to have, make, you know … I was getting ready to have an intimate moment with my ex,” he recalled in a recent interview with Men’s Health.
“I had a breathing issue after the intimate interaction.”
“I was trying to inhale, and it felt like it wasn’t working,” he continued, “I felt like I was having like an asthma attack—but I don’t have asthma.”
At the core of why he gained so much weight, the 51-year-old believes it was years of bereavement. He said the weight started to pile on in 2014 while he was grieving the loss of his father, Trevor Smith Sr., and two years after his close friend and manager Chris Lighty who also passed away unexpectedly. Dealing with profound grief became overwhelming, leading to significant weight gain.
The “Break Ya Neck” rapper said he then knew he had to start working out to get back into shape.
However, some fans are questioning if Busta used other means to shed the weight.
“Busta definitely on Ozempic,” one person said after seeing a picture of him out at the basketball game. Someone else joked that “they cloned him.”
Another X user reminded critics to remember Chadwick.
