Danielle Brooks is set to lead the return of Black Girls Rock! The actress will host the awards show in its 2024 Lifetime debut. The ceremony will be taped at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on June 27 and will air on August 1, 2024.
A Night to Celebrate Black Excellence
Founder Beverly Bond expressed her excitement about the event’s return. “As the BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Awards make their much-anticipated return to television on Lifetime, we are thrilled to reignite this empowering platform on a new network in the vibrant city of Atlanta, our new cultural epicenter for celebration,” she detailed in a statement.
Lifetime’s Elaine Frontain Bryant added, “Lifetime is thrilled to partner with Beverly Bond and BLACK GIRLS ROCK! for this historic celebration of Black women’s excellence. As the premier women’s network, this partnership is a strategic alignment of our visions, underscoring our commitment to amplifying the voices and impact of women of color.”
Black Girls Rock! Honoring Trailblazers and Pioneers
This year’s honorees include a stellar lineup:
- Tracee Ellis Ross will receive the Star Power Award.
- Gina Prince-Bythewood will receive the Shot Caller Award.
- Fantasia will receive the Black Girl Magic Award.
- Aurora James will receive the Boss Up Award.
- Stephanie Mills will receive the Living Legend Award.
- Maya Penn will receive the Young, Gifted and Black Award.
- Latham Thomas will receive the Community Change Agent Award.
Brooks, an Academy Award-nominated actress, will lead the celebration of these powerhouse Black women. Brooks will see her “The Color Purple” co-star Fantasia Barrino receive the Black Girl Magic Award and watch singer Stephanie Mills receive the Living Legend Award.
Expanded Celebrations in Atlanta
In addition to the award show, the BLACK GIRLS ROCK! EXPERIENCE will take place across Atlanta. This event will feature the BGR! Film Festival screening over 75 films, the BLACK CLOUD® Rainmaker Summit, and the VIP Pre-Awards Shot Caller Dinner and fundraising gala.
