Eddie Murphy has confirmed a new addition to his family. The actor said his son and Martin Lawrence’s daughter welcomed a baby girl.

The child marks a shared milestone for two of comedy’s most recognizable figures. Murphy and Lawrence are now connected as co-grandfathers.

Murphy shared the news during an appearance tied to the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award ceremony. He said the baby arrived recently and is already bringing joy to both families.

“They just had a baby girl,” Murphy said. “They just had her two weeks ago, or a week ago. Yeah, Ari Skye.”

A New Generation for Two Comedy Families

The baby, named Ari Skye, is the first child for Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence. The couple married in May 2025 after several years together.

Their relationship had already linked the two families. The birth now deepens that bond in a more personal way.

According to Murphy, the child was born in early April. The couple had previously announced the pregnancy in February through social media.

The arrival also marks a first for Lawrence, who is now a grandfather. Murphy, a father of 10, already has grandchildren and another on the way.

Family members have celebrated the news privately. Both sides expressed excitement leading up to the birth.

“My heart is overflowing with love and gratitude,” Lawrence wrote earlier about the couple’s journey into parenthood.

Murphy Reflects on Parenting and Legacy

Murphy also spoke candidly about parenting while discussing the new baby. He said he is not focused on giving advice.

“Oh, you don’t give advice like that,” Murphy said. “You know, your kids don’t go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you.”

He continued with a blunt observation about how children learn.

“The stuff you be saying, they don’t even pay that s–t no mind,” he said.

Murphy emphasized that actions matter more than words. He said setting an example remains the most important role for parents.

The actor also reflected on how he defines his legacy. He pointed to family over career achievements.

“My legacy to me isn’t my work,” Murphy said. “My legacy to me is my children.”

The birth of Ari Skye adds another chapter to that legacy. It also connects two Hollywood families with decades of influence in film and comedy.
