As Los Angeles begins recovering from devastating wildfires this month, hip-hop legend Flavor Flav is stepping up for Black families affected by the crisis. Partnering with GoFundMe and the Black Music Action Coalition, Flav launched a fundraiser to aid over 700 families displaced by the Eaton fire in the Pasadena and Altadena areas.

Flavor Flav Aids in Disaster Relief

“This is Flavor Flav in the building,” he shared in a heartfelt video posted to social media on January 20. “It’s been inspiring to me, seeing a lot of people coming together right now, lifting each other’s spirits.”

Flav emphasized the critical need for targeted support for Black communities, who often face systemic challenges in receiving disaster aid. “There’s not enough being done for the Black families and the communities,” he continued. “Come on, y’all. Let’s make L.A. strong, baby. Let’s help those in need.”

The fundraiser, which has already raised over $35,000, directs contributions to a network of organizations, including Community Aid Dena, AFROPUNK, and WalkGood LA. Donations can be made through the GoFundMe campaign.

Flavor Flav joins a growing list of musicians supporting wildfire relief efforts. Stars like Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Beyoncé have donated to various organizations aiding victims. Doja Cat unveiled custom merchandise to fund relief initiatives, while Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, and Olivia Rodrigo are set to perform at FireAid, an upcoming charity concert.

Flav also found a unique way to support those personally affected. In a January 14 TikTok, he encouraged fans to stream Leighton Meester’s 2009 single “Somebody to Love” to support her family, who lost their home in the fires. “Starting to hype up my girl Leighton Meester and help her family recover from the fire,” he captioned the post.

Reflecting on the disaster, Flav urged others to join him. “I urge not only Black artists and musicians but EVERYONE to come together and help those still in desperate need,” he said.
