Gayle King shares her shock after finding out that she landed the cover of Sports Illustrated for the magazine’s 60th anniversary.

“Ahh, I’m on the cover. They told me I was just going to be on the inside. It’s not a dummy cover? This is going to be on the newsstands?,” King said while reacting to the news.

She continued stating that she never thought that she would ever grace the cover. “Growing up, my Grandmother said to me ‘ Mother Nature was not as kind to you as she was to other little girls. Maybe you need to start wearing makeup like your friend ‘Ofrey’ [Oprah].’’

King, who turns 70 this year, said she thought that being on the cover was a joke. “This was one of the highlights of all the things I’ve done because I never thought this would be possible.” She continued, “I’m floating. I’m floating. I can’t believe it. Never in my wildest dreams.”

She revealed that she also consulted with family and her best friend, Oprah Winfrey, before doing the photoshoot. “I didn’t go crazy dieting and maintained my regular exercise routine including cardio and strength training.” King spoke about the cover as she was wearing a one-piece Evarae swimsuit and cover-up.

“I wanted tasteful cleavage, and they delivered all of that,” she said. Last year, Martha Stewart also graced the cover of the swimsuit magazine at age 81.
