Issa Rae, creator of the hit show Insecure, has confirmed that she no longer wants to work with actress Amanda Seales. During a recent event promoting her Viarae prosecco brand in Brooklyn, Rae opened up about her decision, referencing a past collaborator who had spoken negatively about her on a podcast.
When asked if there was anyone she would not work with again, Rae responded, “I mean, anybody who’s going on a podcast to talk sh*t about me.” While Rae did not mention Seales by name, many believe she was referring to her former *Insecure* co-star, who has been vocal about their falling out.
Rae and Seales Feud Stemming From Emmys Incident
The tension between Rae and Seales reportedly dates back to 2019, when Seales was allegedly removed from an Emmys party at the request of Rae’s publicist, Vanessa Anderson. Seales addressed the incident on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, saying, “Rae called me later and said she wasn’t involved in the decision.” Seales claimed Rae tried to arrange a conversation between her and Anderson, but the issues were never fully resolved.
Seales also mentioned feeling unsupported by Rae, adding, “She didn’t feel like I deserved to be protected.” While Seales acknowledged Rae’s groundbreaking role in the industry, she felt Rae did not have her back in this particular situation.
Unresolved Tensions on Set
Seales has also been vocal about her experiences on the set of Insecure, where she felt isolated. “There’s a whole narrative that I was the mean girl on set, but it’s her show. I don’t even have the capacity to be the mean girl here because you can fire me,” she explained on Club Shay Shay.
Seales has not publicly responded to Rae’s recent comments, but tensions between the two seem far from resolved. Rae made it clear that she is moving on from the conflict, saying, “I’ve had great experiences with everybody I’ve worked with though.” However, it’s evident that her collaboration with Seales is over for good.
