Jennifer Hudson Hit During Basketball Game Date With Common

Jennifer Hudson was practically hit in the face by a basketball while sitting courtside with Common at the Knicks-Warriors game on Tuesday (Mar 4).

Miles McBride of the New York Knicks was going for a steal against the visiting Golden State Warriors at Madison Square Garden when things went all sorts of wrong in the game’s second period.

The ball skyrocketed toward the courtside seats and straight at Hudson, who was nestled next to Common. The veteran rapper tried to protect his lady, but in executing a volleyball-style move to knock the basketball away from her face, he appeared to whack her right in what NBA on TNT announcer Greg Anthony guessed were her “real expensive” eyeglasses.

Hudson, said a distinct “wow” in the immediate aftermath, puzzled by what just happened.

Cameras captured the surreal sequence: Hudson’s glasses tumbling, Common’s apologetic embrace, and McBride pausing to check on her, mouthing, “You good?”

“Protect Jennifer Hudson. Protect Jennifer Hudson,” announcer Ian Eagle intoned afterward. Then came the instant replay, during which they assessed whether Common had indeed protected the talk-show host.

“Common is making sure everybody’s OK,” Eagle said. “Let me see what Common did. Did he, did he protect her?” the second commentator wondered

“He tried. He actually banged the glasses,” Eagle said. “No. No, he didn’t,” the second commentator said. “He doesn’t get points for that.”

On the topic of protecting his lady , Common opened up about getting married. He said, “If I should be married, it would be to Jennifer Kate Hudson.” Hudson responded positively, calling it a “beautiful idea” while adding that it would only happen in “due time.”
