The ex-husband of former first lady Dr. Jill Biden has been indicted on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of his current wife, authorities said Tuesday.

William Stevenson, 77, received the charge following an extensive weeks-long investigation into the death of his wife Linda Stevenson, 64. Per the police statement, she was found unresponsive in December inside a home in New Castle County, Delaware.

Linda was declared dead at the scene after attempting to revive her.

Her cause of death hasn’t been released yet but cops said they would be conducting an autopsy.

She ran a bookkeeping business and was described as a family-oriented mother and grandmother and a Philadelphia Eagles fan, according to her obituary, which does not mention her husband.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Christina Vettori, her granddaughter and her sister.

Stevenson remains in jail after failing to post $500,000 bail after his arrest.

In Delaware, Stevenson was known as the founder of the “Stone Balloon”, a Newark bar and music venue near the University of Delaware that opened in 1972 and has promoted its long history as a campus landmark.

Stevenson was previously married to Dr.Biden for five years before divorcing in 1975. In 1977, two years after divorcing Stevenson, Jill wed then-Senator Joe Biden (D-Del.)

In an interview with the conservative news outlet Newsmax in 2024, Stevenson criticized Jill Biden and he described their divorce as contentious, calling her “bitter” and “nasty.”
