Keke Palmer is one of the brightest stars in the entertainment industry. But her illustrious career began when she was just a child.
During an interview with Parade, Palmer shared which child star she wanted to be like.
”I was experiencing so many grand versions of firsts, you know what I mean?” she said. “And I grew up thinking I would love to be like Raven-Symoné. It was so cool to have my own show.”
Palmer also spoke about the challenges of leading your own show.
”Then there was also a very difficult reality of what it means to be a star of your own show. And have that level of a workload,” she said. “There was so much that came with fame; it changed my life,” she added.
Palmer then went on to share that she “{loved multi-camera sitcoms.”
”I really loved working on that show and the vibe of coming to set. And rehearsing, then having a big show on Friday, with friends and family in the audience. There was a live theater element,” said Palmer. “I hope and wish that one day I can do another sitcom with a live studio audience again.”
Palmer’s tenure at Nickelodeon solidified her status as a premier child star of her generation, anchored by her breakthrough role in the hit sitcom True Jackson, VP. The series ran from 2008 to 2011.
‘Starring in the role of a 15-year-old, Palmer portrayed a fashion-forward teenager unexpectedly hired as the vice president of a major youth apparel line. In the show’s premiere, she garnered a record-breaking 4.8 million viewers. She also earned her four consecutive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Performance in a Youth/Children’s Program.
Palmer’s major new film is I Love Boosters, a surreal crime comedy written and directed by Boots Riley. The film is releasing theatrically nationwide on May 22, 2026.
