Lil Wayne officially breaks his silence about not being selected to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The Super Bowl will take place in New Orleans, the rapper’s hometown. Wayne said he was hurt after learning he wouldn’t be performing at the game. He also said that he was looking forward to the opportunity for months before it was announced that Kendrick Lamar would be headlining the show.

Lil Wayne also shared his gratitude for everyone who has been vocally supportive of him since the news broke. Nicki Minaj and Birdman shared their feelings about Lil Wayne not being selected to perform.

On his Instagram, he said, “First of all, I wanna say forgive me for the delay. I wanna say, first of all, I had to get strength. I had to get strength enough to do this without breaking. I wanna say thank you. I wanna say thank you to every voice, every opinion, all the care, all the love, and the support out there.”

He continued, “Your words turned into arms and held me up when I tried to fall back. That hurt, hurt a lot. You know what I’m talking about. It hurt a whole lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown and for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody told me that was my position. So I blame myself for that.”

Lil Wayne added, “There was nothing better than that stage and that platform my city.” He revealed that he’s moving forward and it’s largely due to the outpouring of support that he has received.

“It hurt a lot,” Lil Wayne said. “But y’all are f*****g amazing. It made me feel like s*** not getting this opportunity and when I felt like s**t, you guys reminded me that I ain’t s**t without y’all. That’s an amazing reality. So like I said, it broke me and I’m just trying to put me back together. But my God have you all helped. Thanks to all my peeps, my friends, my family, my homies on sports television, everybody repping me. I appreciate that. I really do. I feel like I let all of y’all down by not getting that opportunity but I’m working on me and I’m working. Thank you.”

He also added that he has other things planned in the coming months. His Lil’ WeezyAna Fest will return to New Orleans in November.
