In a recent Valentine’s Day Twitch stream, Lizzo revealed that she and SZA nearly formed a rock band with a bold name. The duo, along with another unnamed musician, considered calling themselves “P*ssy Lasers” before ultimately scrapping the idea. Although the band never came to life, the sessions they spent together led to the creation of SZA’s track “F2F.”

A Missed Musical Opportunity for SZA and Lizzo

Lizzo shared the story with fans while reminiscing about their time in the studio. “We were going to start a rock band called P*ssy Lasers with an incredible other artist,” she said. “But that never came about.” However, the creativity from those sessions did not go to waste. Instead, their collaboration helped shape “F2F,” a song that later appeared on SZA’s 2022 album SOS.

A Friendship Rooted in Music

Lizzo, 36, and SZA, 35, have shared a close friendship since 2014. Over the years, their bond has been more than just industry connections. Lizzo explained, “We’ve just always been friends, and it’s a sacred space for me in this industry.”

Their strong friendship led to several studio sessions, where they would spend time creating music together. “We got this little period of time where we were just linking up in the studio, eating pasta, and drinking,” Lizzo recalled. During one of these sessions, the idea of a rock band was born.

Although “P*ssy Lasers” never became a reality, the energy from their jam sessions directly influenced “F2F.” Lizzo detailed the song’s inception, saying, “I was like, ‘This sh*t is hard, though,’ so I was in the studio just vibing.”

A Song with Rock Influence

“F2F” stands out on SOS with its distinct ’90s grunge rock inspiration and harmonized vocals. While an initial “mumble verse” was cut from the final track, the song still carries the raw energy of their collaboration. Lizzo praised SZA’s songwriting skills, stating, “She writes the craziest songs, and I just love watching her work.”

With their history of musical chemistry, fans are hopeful the two will team up again for future projects.
