LL Cool J is over rappers talking about getting money all the time in their songs.
The legendary rapper called out his fellow rappers for not rapping about other things in their songs. “When a rapper comes out, and he’s talking that money talk, you love it. But 12 years later, he’s still talking that money talk, and now you’re looking at him like, ‘Dude, do you have anything else to talk about?’”he said.
The rapper, 56, went on to explain how rapper’s lyrics should have meaning and used Bob Marley’s music as an example. “He talked about something. He had something to say. And guess what? You don’t care what Bob Marley had in the bank. Because that’s not the metric for success. It’s not the metric for cultural success. Bob Marley did not have to be rich. He was rich in what he did and what he created and what he put in the world. That s**t matters.”
He added, “The wallet can’t un-corny you.”
LL Cool J, whose real name is James Todd Smith, gained commercial success in 1984 with his first single, “I Need A Beat.” He went on to release other major hits such as, “I Need Love,” “I’m Bad,” “Mama, Said Knock You Out,” and more.
In 2021, LL Cool J was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his contributions to music and has won multiple awards throughout his career, including two Grammys.
