Actress Meagan Good recently opened up about how her appearance has sometimes worked against her in Hollywood. While speaking on The Best Podcast Ever with Raven-Symoné and Miranda Maday, Good revealed that her looks have occasionally cost her roles.
“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked into something and I had an audition, and they were like, ‘She was great, but we just don’t realistically believe her as this character because she’s a pretty girl,’” Good shared. The 43-year-old actress admitted it was frustrating to be judged based solely on her appearance. “That’s doing the character a disservice because that means you’re saying she’s just about the look.”
Perks and Pitfalls of ‘Pretty Privilege’
While Good acknowledged there are perks to her beauty, she highlighted the downsides, especially in an industry that often prioritizes looks. “I don’t mind the perks,” she explained. “But just as many perks come with it, so do the other things, or the abuses, or whatever it may be.” However, she remained positive, emphasizing, “It’s just I feel like it’s all about what you want to put into the world because I think that we’re all here to help each other at the end of the day.”
Despite these challenges, Good’s career continues to thrive. She recently starred in Tyler Perry’s 2024 film Divorce In The Black, and she’s determined to keep pushing her boundaries as an artist. “I want to be a superhero. I want to do artistic activism,” she said enthusiastically.
Good Moving Forward with Confidence
Good expressed that while her beauty has posed challenges, it has not diminished her drive. She emphasized that her goal has never been about fame. “I don’t have a desire to be famous,” she noted. “I know what I want to put in the world has never been about being famous.”
Ultimately, Good is determined to use her platform for something bigger than herself, embracing both the positives and negatives of her journey in Hollywood.
