Jaylen Brown scored a new partnership to amplify the conversation about hair thinning.
After seeing internet jokes about his hair, the Boston Celtics star took to instagram to announce his partnership with Nutrafol, a company known for it’s hair-growth supplements.
In the caption, he joked about his thinning hair even sharing that he considered traveling overseas for a solution.
“You all know I’ve been reaching out for advice on this whole hair-thinning situation…I even called the GOAT himself, considered traveling to Turkey lol. But I’m now ready for the next chapter on this journey with my new partnership with @nutrafolmen hair growth supplements,” he wrote.
Brown, 29, told PEOPLE that he detected a difference in his hair roughly one to two years ago. He noticed increased shedding after taking out his braids and tried topical solutions like serums, but nothing delivered results.
“When I first noticed it, it wasn’t significant. I used to have braids, but when I would take [them] out, I would be shedding a lot of hair,” he shared.
He sought out topical solutions like serums to improve his hair health, but “nothing seemed to work,” he added.
“Then I cut my hair,” Brown continued. But as the stress of being in a “pressurized environment” mounted, the issue increased.
The 29-year-old feels that the stress of winning an NBA championship in 2024 and trying to defend the title last season played a part in his hair loss.
“It’s the high expectation to win [the championship], or the season is a failure,” he explained.
After cutting his hair, Brown said he visited the barbershop frequently, even admitting to using sprays.
Viral ‘hair’-turning moment on the court
An October 24, internet jokes ensued after Brown left residue on OG Anunoby’s jersey during a game against the New York Knicks.
Brown, who was locked into the game, didn’t immediately notice what happened. When he did, “I was a little bit embarrassed. And then I got mad at myself for being embarrassed at all.”
“After a while, it was like, ‘Those dudes should be grateful.’” [A hair product on his head would also leave marks on Detroit Pistons player Ron Holland and Washington Wizards player Kyshawn George in the following days.]
“They’re lucky that I left my mark on them. I should get a thank you card: You have the residue of a champion on you. You’re welcome.’”
