It looks like NeNe Leakes is going to court and she’s taking the creators of The Real Housewives of Atlanta with her.
According to reports, the former RHOA star is suing the producers and executives for providing a “racially insensitive and hostile work environment.”
The lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Atlanta states, “NBC, Bravo, and True foster a corporate and workplace culture in which racially insensitive and inappropriate behavior is tolerated- if not, encouraged.”
NeNe Leakes was on the show for seven seasons between 2008 and 2020 and opened up about how she complained to executives about former co-star Kim Zolciak-Biermann’s racist remarks.
She listed the few times that these occurrences happened and claim that the comments were “racially offensive and stereotypical’ and directed towards her and other Black Housewives.
Leakes states that because she spoke up, she was faced to deal with the consequences while Kim was rewarded. NeNe’s lawyers named Andy Cohen as one of the main people who accepted and tolerated Kim’s behavior.
“From the day the series began filming, NeNe was the target of systemic racism from co-star Kim Zolciak-Biermann, which was tolerated by Bravo executive producer Andy Cohen and other executives,” the statement said.
The lawsuit also touches on her return to Season 13 during the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement and says that Leakes was “forced” off by executives to make sure that she wouldn’t be in any episodes that would address the movement.
“As the Black Lives Matter movement swept our nation, Mrs. Leakes – Bravo’s historically most successful Black female talent, – should have been embraced by NBC, Bravo, and True. Instead, NBC, Bravo, and True forced her out of the house she built denying her a regular role,” the statement says.
