Odell Beckham Jr. celebrated a significant legal victory, announcing the conclusion of his $20 million lawsuit against Nike. On Instagram, the NFL star expressed immense relief and gratitude. Beckham wrote, “JUST DO……RIGHT @nike.” He continued to thank his team and the jury for the outcome of the case. “My message to whoever needs this is, STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN! JUSTICE WAS SERVED!!! ✊🏾🫱🏾🫲🏼🫶🏾.”
The lawsuit, filed in 2022, alleged that Nike breached their contract by withholding royalties owed to Beckham. Despite the celebratory nature of his post, a Nike representative informed Complex that Beckham received no monetary award. “With this verdict, all of Mr. Beckham’s claims have been decided against him without any monetary award,” the Nike statement read. “The decision confirmed that Nike complied with its commitments. Nike is grateful to the jury and the Court for their careful attention to this case.”
Jury’s Decision On Beckham’s Case
The case was heard in the Multnomah County Circuit Court in Oregon. The jury deliberated for only a few hours before concluding that Nike did not breach its contract. The court ruled that Nike had not withheld royalties and that Beckham’s glove customizations did not violate the agreement. It also determined that Nike waived its right to enforce the contract for certain glove designs. Furthermore, the jury found that Beckham did not breach his contract by disclosing terms of the deal.
Beckham’s legal battle with Nike has been closely watched. In 2022, Beckham explained, “I’m taking a stand not just for me, but to set a precedent for all athletes who have dedicated their life to the sport they love—especially those who don’t have the means to stand up for themselves.”
Despite the lack of a monetary award, Beckham’s public statements emphasize a moral victory. His social media post suggests a sense of personal triumph and vindication. The Miami Dolphins player, now focusing on his NFL career, concluded his celebration with a powerful message: “Gods child. Its never in question.”
