Oprah Winfrey is opening up on why she left WeightWatchers after being on the board for over a decade.

While making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday, (march 14), Winfrey said explained that she didn’t want to cause conflict between her position at WeightWatchers and her upcoming special on weight loss drugs once she admitted to using medication to lose weight.

“I decided that because this special is really important to me, I wanted to be able to talk about whatever I want to talk about,” she told Kimmel. “I did not want to have the appearance of any conflict of interest. So I resigned from the board and I donated all of my shares to the National Museum of African-American [History & Culture].”

She added that when she left the team at WeightWatchers she almost cried.  We reported that Oprah Winfrey announced her departure from WeightWatchers as well as her upcoming special on weight loss medication, Shame, Blame, and the Weight Loss Revolution which is set to air on ABC.

She revealed that she has incorporated a diet pill into her daily routine. “The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for. I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”
