Two-time Grammy winner Samara Joy, is closing the year with more wins.
We previously reported that Joy, 23, released her first Christmas release, A Joyful Holiday in October. In addition to that masterpiece, Joy has dropped a new single, “Lush Life” which is her version of the revered jazz composition. Her version of the song landed her a Grammy nod for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals.
The original “Lush Life” was written and performed by Billy Strayhorn and vocalist, Kay Davis from 1933 to 1936. The song discusses the author’s weariness of the night life after a failed romance.
As NPR reports, “The pun in the song’s title suggests that “Lush Life” might be speaking of a life of elegance, or of boozy despair. In both senses, the song reflects the life of the man who wrote it.”
To celebrate the achievement, Joy has dropped a studio video for “Lush Life.” The visual features Kevin McCallister on sax, bassist Mike Migliore, drummer Evan Sherman, pianist Luther Allison, Jason Charos on the trumpet and Donovan Austin on the trombone.
