Solange Knowles has unveiled a new glassware line through her Saint Heron creative house. The collection, “Small Matter: Form Glassware 001,” is now available at the MoMA Design Store.
Solange Knowles’ Artistic Vision in Glass
Knowles collaborated with glassblower Jason McDonald to design the collection. Each piece is crafted from lightweight borosilicate glass using graphite molds, ensuring uniformity. According to the official description, these works of art “combine light, color, movement, and form,” reflecting Small Matter’s design philosophy.
Knowles shared her journey into glassblowing in an interview with Wallpaper. “I began to make silicone moulds to work with resin to just explore different forms,” she said. “I fell in love with the luminosity and transparency in these resin objects.” Her fascination deepened after taking glassblowing classes in Florida. “To work with glass is to surrender yourself to be constantly moving on the material’s time, and then sort of freeze time with an object,” she explained.
New Additions to the Collection
The latest collection features a new color combination: Topaz and Onyx. The pieces come in three styles: wine glass, goblet, and cordial. These items are inspired by Brutalist architecture and offer a blend of form and function.
The glassware is versatile, perfect for both beverages and desserts. “The cordial glass could hold a delicate dessert like ice cream or mousse, and the goblet would be the most gorgeous water glass your table has ever seen,” said one admirer. Even when empty, they serve as stunning decorative pieces.
Solange Knowles continues to expand her artistic repertoire. Her previous accomplishments include critically acclaimed albums and an original score for the New York City Ballet. Her passion for creativity shines through in every project she undertakes.
The “Small Matter: Form Glassware 001” collection is available starting at $41. Visit the MoMA Design Store or Saint Heron’s official site to view and purchase these meticulously crafted pieces.
