According to reports, SZA revealed her cover art on Wednesday (Dec. 18) for her much-anticipated album, Lana: the deluxe version of her Grammy-winning project, SOS.

The artwork features the singer transformed into a gleaming figure with large eyes, wearing a camouflage jacket and cargo pants, blending seamlessly into her rugged outdoor surroundings. SZA revealed on Monday that her album, Lana, is set to drop this Friday under Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA Records. The announcement came with an Instagram post featuring a trailer where Ben Stiller appears alongside a previously unheard song called “Drive.”

During a September 2023 performance at Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York, she introduced the project as “a whole ‘nother album, and it’s called Lana. It’s seven to 10 songs, and it’ll be out this fall.” In an interview, the star unveiled the albums to be drastically different from one another. She stated,“I think I am making music from a more beautiful place. From a more possible place versus a more angsty place.” “I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s sh– that happened to me. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.”

SZA’s Deluxe Edition: Chart Success and Grammy Recognition

More than two years after the release of SOS, SZA returns with a deluxe set, boasting 23 tracks, including five top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Kill Bill” at No. 1, as well as “Snooze,” “I Hate U,” “Good Days,” and “Nobody Gets You.”

The album dominated the Billboard 200 chart for 10 nonconsecutive weeks—the longest run for an R&B/hip-hop album by a woman since Mariah Carey’s debut in 1991. What began as a seasonal success has since become one of the defining releases of the past two years. Nominated for Album of the Year and Best Progressive R&B Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards, SZA emerged as the most-nominated artist with nine nods in total.
