In case you missed it, Tia Mowry, famous for her role in Sister, Sister, is showcasing her journey in a reality series titled Tia Mowry: My Next Act. During the premiere episode, the actress revealed, according to Essence, that she didn’t lose her virginity until the age of 25, to her ex-husband. Mowry confessed, “I wasn’t even allowed to date until I was 18 years old.” “I met Cory when I turned 20, and I lost my virginity at 25. There, I said it! And then we got married! Boom!” She continued, “Cory was my first … everything!”
Mowry first opened up about this back in 2013 during an Ebony interview, when she was still married to Cory Hardrict. She stated, “My husband and I, we were friends for a whole year before we decided to start dating. And even once we started dating, we waited. I lost my virginity at 25. So we even waited for a while to even get intimate.” The actress elaborated, “This works for some people and it doesn’t work for some people and it’s OK. That’s what I mean by baggage. Know and learn and understand what baggage can you handle and what can you not handle.”
Mowry Prioritizes Self-Love
Mowry has faced significant criticism from fans who question her decision to end her marriage, believing she left a ‘good’ man over trivial matters. Though she’s never explicitly stated her reasons, the actress has hinted at prioritizing her own happiness and self-worth. The 44-year-old mentioned during an appearance on the “Today” show in 2022, “I knew when I really started to focus on my happiness.” She added, “I feel like women, we tend to focus on everybody else’s happiness, making sure that everybody else is OK — meaning our children, our friends, our family — but at the end of the day, it’s about self-love.”
The star’s journey into single life is well underway, more than two years after her divorce announcement. Meanwhile, Cory Hardrict recently reflected on the emotional toll the breakup took on him, admitting he spent over a year and a half crying himself to sleep. Their 14-year marriage ended when Mowry filed for divorce in October 2022, with the split finalized in April 2023. The former couple now shares joint custody of their two children: 13-year-old Cree and 6-year-old Cairo.
