President Donald Trump offered glowing praise for rapper Nicki Minaj during a White House Rose Garden Club lunch Monday, highlighting the artist before a crowd of invited guests as the pair’s increasingly public political alliance continued to draw attention.
Minaj attended the luncheon as one of several high-profile guests invited to the White House. Trump singled her out during prepared remarks, describing the Grammy-nominated performer as a respected entertainer and a supporter of what he called “common sense.”
“We also have a woman that is so respected and so hot and so great and such a great friend of, I don’t say conservative, I say of common sense,” Trump said. “She’s a fantastic person and she’s a woman that’s respected by everybody and she’s got real talent: Nicki Minaj.”
The president later referenced Minaj again while discussing the Small Business Administration.
“They call it small business, Nicki, but when you add it up, it’s bigger than any bank in the world, probably, right?” Trump said.
Minaj later shared clips from the White House gathering on social media and referred to herself as “#WhiteHouseBarbie,” embracing the moment with her signature branding.
A Growing Political Partnership
Monday’s appearance reflected a significant shift in Minaj’s public political profile.
The rapper was once known for criticizing some of Trump’s policies during his first presidency. In recent months, however, she has become one of the administration’s most visible celebrity supporters.
Her support became increasingly public after appearances at conservative events and White House initiatives earlier this year. Those appearances included backing the administration’s investment program for children and speaking positively about Trump during several public events.
The White House luncheon reinforced that relationship. Trump devoted part of his remarks to recognizing Minaj before continuing his broader discussion of economic initiatives and small businesses.
The comments quickly spread across social media. Supporters celebrated the exchange, while critics questioned the president’s remarks about the rapper’s appearance. The clips generated widespread discussion throughout the afternoon.
Public Appearance Draws Attention
The luncheon came during a busy day of White House events focused on administration priorities and outreach efforts.
Minaj remained one of the event’s most talked-about attendees. Her presence underscored the growing intersection of entertainment and politics as celebrities continue to play increasingly visible roles in public policy conversations.
The rapper has defended her willingness to express political opinions despite criticism from some fans and members of the entertainment industry. She has previously said she believes people should think independently and should not feel pressured to adopt political positions simply because of public expectations.
Trump, meanwhile, has increasingly embraced celebrity supporters during his second term. He frequently spotlights entertainers and athletes who publicly back his agenda.
