Hip Hop’s most pivotal players are up for nominations this year at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Announced on Wednesday, this year’s nominees have been revealed and some of the rappers being acknowledged on the big night, include Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G, Tupac Shakur and Kid Cudi.
Jay-Z earned his fourth nomination for co-directing for Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show. The performance received a total of five nominations including Outstanding Variety Special (Live) and Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special. Last year, the Roc Nation founder won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special for the Super Bowl LVI show, which included Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar, along with special guests 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak.
Dear Mama, the FX series about Tupac Shakur and his mother Afeni Shakur, is nominated for Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Series. In the A.I space, a virtual reality concert that brought Notorious B.I.G. back to life is up for Outstanding Emerging Media program. For animation, Kid Cudi’s Netflix show Entergalactic, for example, is nominated for Outstanding Animated Program.
The 2023 Emmys will be held on September 18 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, broadcasting live at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
